TITLE: Representation of Loneliness in Contemporary Art
ABSTRACT: This presentation examines representations of loneliness in contemporary art as a socio-cultural and existential condition. While modern society offers unprecedented technological connectivity, it frequently deepens alienation and social disconnection. Through images of isolated bodies, vacant interiors, and fragmented urban environments—as seen in the works of Marlene Dumas, Michaël Borremans, and Peter Doig—loneliness evolves from a thematic subject into an aesthetic experience. Grounded in concepts of social alienation, digital connectivity, and the aesthetics of absence, this research explores how contemporary art creates a critical space to reframe experiences of isolation and voluntary solitude.
